Day 1 - Design For Change

Day 1

Today afternoon we had a surprise session with Kiran Mam. We were very excited as we walked into the design studio. We had heard strange whispers of a new challenge and were wondering if we would be the lucky ones to have that opportunity in our school.

As we settled into the room, we were told about the LEGO Idea Conference where Design for Change had been selected as one of the Champions for Re-imagine Learning Challenge. And it was during the conference at Billund, that this challenge came about between two champions, DFC and WASH United.

WASH United, works on behavior change in sanitation and was eager to collaborate with children to come up with low cost prototypes of their games on behavior change. Therefore it came as an opportunity before us.

And opportunities have to be earned. Kiran Mam questioned our preparedness for the challenge by introducing us to the problem of diarrhoea. We all had suffered from diarrhoea but never knew that it could kill as well. We got to know that a lot of children in Africa and India were dying of diarrhoea. We were then asked to research to understand what was the difference between us and other children who died from diarrhoea while we got better.
